Although there is no “I” in TEAM, we don’t require teammates race at the same time (in case they have to work or other activities) or same distance (in case they have different abilities/interests).
If people sign up later than others some waves might close as they can’t have unlimited athletes racing in them. If your teammates are in different waves and you want to race together, follow these steps:First, make sure to join the team first:

Yes you can! There is a $10 fee to transfer your entry as your insurance fee is attached to you and can't be transferred.

You can race solo or with friends, it’s up to you. Teammates don’t have to signup at the same time, just make sure everyone joins the team BEFORE race day. You will need a minimum of 15 teammates, and there is no maximum.

Our company is not, but we support non-profits at each event! In fact there are usually 3-4 local charities involved at each of our races and the proceeds go to help them out. Are you involved in a charity group and would like to get involved? Let us know!
Athletes must at least be 14 years old to race solo. Young athletes 7-13 years old may compete on the 3 mile course if they’re accompanied by a parent. Any athletes younger than 18 need to bring a parent or legal guardian on race day to sign a waiver.
There is a Little Monkey race after the last adult wave at most venues for kids of any age. Read the details for the location you want to go to.
You will need an ID OR your Check-In Sheet no matter your age to pick up your race packet. Please bring a school issued ID card if you don’t have a drivers license. Parents will need to show an ID as well when they sign a waiver for any minors.
When you check-in at the race Saturday morning we'll give you a special wristband that you must wear during the entire event and you must be wearing it at the finish line to be included in the Competitive results. Please make sure the volunteer checking you gives you this wristband!
Mandatory Obstacle Completion
While most of us do obstacle races because we love playing on the obstacles, you're in a category that requires you complete every obstacle. To be eligible for the cash prizes and to be ranked in the results, you must complete every obstacle. You can try as many times as you wish but if you can't finish one we will simply keep your Competitive Wristband and move your result to the "open" category.
This is a challenging obstacle where you swing from one rope to another until you get to the end of the obstacle. Your feet cannot touch the ground after the platform you start on and your feet must make it to the platform you finish on. If your feet touch the ground, you must start again at the beginning.
This is a difficult grip-strength obstacle that claims the most Competitive Wristbands. The first half has climbing hold balls where you swing from one hold to the next. You are only allowed to grab the colored balls; you cannot touch the wood structure they're attached to and you cannot only grab the bolt or strap the hanging holds are attached to. We find the easiest way to conquer it is by putting your hand on top of the balls where they hang down. Your hand can touch this bolt on top but you cannot simply grab the bolts. You can use only one lane.
You cannot use your feet and you cannot touch the wood structure. The apex transition is tricky, do NOT touch the wood!
You must flip any tire two times away from you, and two times back to where you started at for a total of 4 flips.
You need to pull the rope to fetch the tire and then either grap the tire or rope on the other side to return it to it's original spot so the initial rope you pulled is taught.
You must fill the bucket above the fill line and return it still above the fill line.
Crossing the Finish
When you get to the finish line please show the volunteer that removes the timing chips your Competitive Wristband and make sure they give your timing chip to the Race Timer. This is how we will know that you completed every obstacle. It is your responsibility to make sure they hand your chip to the race timer or you will be moved to the open category.
Each race is chip timed. Make sure to return your chip at the finish or you’ll be charged $25.
if you are competitive and plan on receiving an award or want to be chip timed, you must race in the Competitive Waves ($15 extra) or the Premium 8 O'clock waves ($10 more). The early waves disappear fast to those committing to racing early so we save the earliest waves at a premium price for those signing up later. Who wants to race on a Saturday before 9a anyway?
Although there is no I in team, teammates can choose different start times and different distances. The 5k and 10k courses usually split off early on, then join back up later so you won’t be able to run the course together.
No. Any water that you may need to cross will be no more than 3’-4’ deep and will have lifeguards on duty. Duck floaties are accepted if you need them. Some venues might have slightly deeper water, but we always make it so you can get around anything that would require swimming.
EVERYTHING will get muddy, so make sure you don’t wear your favorite running attire.
We suggest wearing:
Sunglasses are nice, but make sure to hold on tight when in the mud and water.
Cameras are a blast, but make sure they’re waterproof!
Have a crazy costume? That’s fine, as long as your clothing does not put anyone (including yourself) in danger.
We recommend athletic clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, really dirty. Our pro team wears MudGear Compression Obstacle Race Socks, Icebug shoes with an awesome tread, and Xracewear apparel. Xracewear makes shorts and tops that hold your bib number so you don't need safety pins. For those looking to crush the course, visit them for great shoes, gloves, shirts, socks and other outdoor performance apparel.
Because we know how awesome our athletes are, we do have medical teams and course personnel roaming the course at all times in addition to the medical tent at the finish line.
If you do get hurt, and are around an obstacle, there will be a volunteer or a medic there that has direct communication with the event directors and we can send one of our course medical teams to your location. If you are not around an obstacle, please tell a fellow athlete to let the next obstacle volunteer or medical teams know and we’ll get help to you ASAP.
Yes, every event will have aid stations along the course with water only. You may need to bring your own energy gels and food, but water will be available every 1-2 miles on the course.
Really? You’re worried about getting wet? Our races will continue if it’s raining, snowing, or whatever! We do everything we can to put on a race in nasty weather but if athlete safety or the venue is threatened by the weather, we may have to cancel. Sorry, there are no refunds due to weather.
It depends how hard core you are! Our races are 5k or 10k but are WAY more fun and will take longer than your normal race. But as a rule of thumb, add 20-30 minutes onto your normal 5k or 10k race time.
